Crab, Sand, + Family

The OBX was AMAZIIIIIIING. I should’ve documented more while my family and I were out there, but we didn’t sight-see as much as I’d hoped, so my camera didn’t make its way out of its bag until we did our session. But I’ll tell you where to eat and where to take some family pictures if you’re looking for that iconic beach look. YAY.

My family and I stayed in Corolla, NC in mid July and my god was it HUMID. The beach was maybe a 10 minute walk from our house, which was awesome if we didn’t want to swim in the pool in our backyard. There’s plenty of shops and restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive, and you bet your ass I demolished as much crab as possible whenever we went out to eat. With that being said, if you’re looking for a quick bite but delicious food, Noosa Beach Grille is where to go! I had the Noosa Crab Cake starter with a side of fries and man oh mannnnnnn.. I could’ve had ten more. I’m a sucker for a good crab cake and it was a 10/10.

One night we decided to make ourselves a seafood boil! If you know which day you’d like to make your boil, make sure you order ahead of time otherwise you might miss out! We ordered from Outer Banks Boil Company and it was worth every penny. We had plenty to eat for 10 people and they even provided you the jumbo pots to cook all the food in! We ordered their Crab Pot with cornbread. It was deliciousssssss.

For our last full night in town, we made our way to Timbuck II (I totally thought this wasn’t a real place, lol) and we all went to a restaurant called Mike Dianna’s Grill Room. I had the Crab Cakes (duh) and it had a choice of one cake or two; two was the obvious choice. After dinner, you could get a quick bumper car ride in, or grab a sweet treat!

And of course since the beach was so beautiful, we had to take some family photos! On our very last bit of day, my husband Josh, myself, and our baby boy Beckett headed out to Kitty Hawk and found Avalon Pier to take pictures at. I almost thought I was out of focus because of how hazy the sky was because of the Canada fires; it was nuts! Thankfully, we didn’t run into anyone that needed the spot we chose, they turned out beautiful, and I trained my hubby well ;) We simply paid for parking, and went on our way! I don’t normally photograph around lunchtime because the sun can be way too harsh, but our timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Being underneath the pier worked out in our favor, and I’m so thankful! This isn’t a session I would normally choose for myself, but after finding this beautiful spot, I couldn’t resist. Suggestions: one, bring towels! You’re going to get wet. Two, wear light items! It can get hot and humid quickly. Even though we were underneath the pier and perfectly cool, once we started walking on the beach to get to the pier, we were already sweating. Three, have fun. No session is going to be absolutely perfect, and that’s what can also make it fun! Did I also mention my husband and I have the cutest baby?! D:
