HIRE THE DAMN DJ
They can make or break your wedding, 100%
I get it, the wedding industry is straight up EXPENSIVE. Almost everyone wants to cut corners when it comes to wedding planning, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But when it comes to finding your DJ: I highly suggest you don’t skimp out on this part of your day, especially if you want to have a banger of a wedding!
I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘not everyone doesn’t want to hire a DJ’ but let me tell you, I’d say 10% of the couples I speak with, just want to have someone use their Spotify account and run the music through some speakers. That’s not to say it can’t work for a home-based wedding in your backyard. But if you’re at a venue, you’re going to want the real thing. But if you’re going to go the Spotify route, there’s almost always too many awkward silences, and people can become confused quickly when there’s no one directing anyone on where to go and when, or to let anyone know what’s happening next. The right DJ will help direct the day and your guests, and potentially keep your wedding on track and on time, and can also set the tone for the entire day, too.
With that said, when my husband and I first got engaged, I was photographing a wedding out in Indiana and let me tell you, the bride was the coordinator. So that meant the DJ, officiant, myself, and my second shooter had to work together really well to direct people, especially since the DJ was the only one with a microphone throughout the entire day. Communication was KEY in that wedding, and it went without a flaw; it was amazing! And that’s because the DJ took control of the day, communicated well with the other vendors, and kept everyone on course for the entire day all the way to the end of the night. He played some bangers no doubt, but that’s a small step in comparison to how everything else has to be run to be an organized and all-around amazing wedding.
Just like photographers, myself included, DJ’s are invested in your day and we care about giving you the best day/experience possible. Hire someone that will talk with you throughout the process of wedding planning, and with one who wants to know what you want to hear on your day! You only get to do this once, so you might as well do it right :)
xoxo, Dana
P.S. Did you know I do a bundle program where if you hire this specific DJ in the link and you hire me as your wedding/event photographer, you get $100 off your package?! Gotta save the dough where you can!
