How to keep your dance floor PACKED

It’s not just the DJ’s job..

You may have NO idea what I’m going to put here, and it may shock you, but it’s also the bride and grooms job! Read below whyyyy!

You’re probably thinking, “NO FUCKING WAY IS THIS TRUE” and it is. I can’t tell you how many times the DJ is playing an amazing song that’ll get people on the dance floor, but if the bride and groom are NOT THERE, your dance floor might be kinda sad.

Think about it this way: your guests have RSVP’ed to come to YOUR wedding, right? They want to see YOU. After the ceremony is over with, and the dance floor opens up after your first dance, people follow you. Your guests want to talk with you, get a drink with you, etc. and they will follow you like a frickin’ shadow throughout the entire night. It sounds so strange, but it’s the honest to god truth. And if you’re not out there getting jiggy with it, your dance floor is going to lack in guests out there as well.

For example: I was second shooting a wedding in September of ‘22, and the DJ was playing some awesome tunes. The bride and groom were nowhere to be seen, and I’m noticing the dance floor is slowly starting to die off to maybe one couple enjoying themselves. The male of the couple came up to me and said in more or less words, that “the DJ wasn’t doing his job because no one’s on the dance floor.” I asked the guest if he could see where the bride and groom were, more as like a rhetorical question. I could see his eyes gazing to try and locate the bride and groom, and they were all the way at the end of the venue, completely on the other side, talking with a group of people! I said to him, “once they get on the dance floor, it’s going to get packed.” Sure enough, right before the lead photographer and I left, the bride and groom got on the dance floor, and people followed, and the floor was popping! I’ve seen it so many times, and it always happens this way.

With that being said, if you want a packed dance floor, just get out there. No one knows how to dance (unless you’re a professional, OBV) and no one cares. As long as you’re having a good time, that’s all that matters.

xoxo, Dana
